Prospecting SCRIPT | Initial Call STEP 3/YES

STEP 3 |Initial Call…if YES

Expert/Trainer takes notes on their answers during this call.

As call is progressing from STEP 2 to STEP 3, Trainee loads up the seacretapp.com for the Founders Video or whatever video is relevant.

If YES:

Sweet! Do you have a few more minutes right now? Wait for permission to proceed. If not, set a time in the next 24-hours to continue. Any longer than that, and you need to re-introduce them to the concept by beginning STEP 2 again.

(Trainee) is going to send you a quick video (about whatever they said was their top interest)…it’s coming from Space so be patient with technology.

As you watch the video, wear two hats:

  • First, in the context of a sidehustle…you’ll glimpse how powerful this is and why (trainee) and I are so excited to share it with you, and
  • Second, as a Customer or Influencer – these people generally want to do the best for their body and for those they are closest to…maybe they want special VIP pricing…or even to fill their own stocking, or share with a few people and get their personal products for FREE or half price.

Did you get the link? Wait for response. Okay, click it now…we’ll stay on the phone. Or if they have to get off the phone (sometimes the audio won’t play if they’re on a call). If you hang up, tell them to watch it now and you’ll call them back in 30 seconds more than the length of the video.

That was great, wasn’t it (name)! Wait for response, allow them to talk if they begin telling you anything…

What did you like the best? (Whatever they say…reply with) Me too!! Based on what you know so far, is there any reason we can’t get together with you – or you and a friend or two – it really won’t take very long, say 15-20 minutes to play in the Mud and help (trainee) off on the right foot.

When is the closest time to right now we can get together? Wait for response.

Okay, you’ll get an email from (trainee) confirming a few things:

  • first, confirming our visit (repeat time and location verbally)
  • second, another short video about the (whatever else they were most interested in).

So (name) what’s the best email or text to reach you at? Pause while they confirm their contact info.

Alright, one more question in closing…and I can appreciate this is coming out of left field so it might be something you haven’t thought about lately, or even at all…but (name) what would you like MORE of in your life, and perhaps more importantly, what would you like a little bit LESS of?

This is where *THEY TELL YOU* the reasons they need a #sidehustle! WRITE DOWN THEIR ANSWERS!!

Practice active listening…ask questions, repeat highlights back to them, guide them along, this is likely the first time they’ve been asked to dream in a very long time…dig deeper into their responses…paint them into the bigger picture. Stretch their vision.

More Time:

How much more time would you like? What would you do with more time? How would that change your priorities? What else?  What else?  What else?

More Money:

What would you do with more money? Why is that important to you? Economically speaking, what does that look like for you? What else?  What else?  What else?

Travel / Vacations / Freedom

Where would you go?  Why? How would you get there?  Drive? Fly? Cruise? Who are you with? What would you do there? Experience the culture, physical exploration, or enjoy the breeze while chillaxing in a hammock? If you’re sitting outside, what are you eating? What time of year is it? What does it smell like? What are you wearing? What else?  What else?  What else?

So if I’m hearing you correctly…you’ve basically thrown your alarm clock at your boss and (repeat their story back to them). Did I get that right (name)?

Alright, WOW, that’s powerful, thank you so much for sharing! Between now and when we meet, go ahead and continue visualizing what you really want your life to look like…I’ll ask you about it when we meet, that way, I can be sure to focus our chat around what’s truly important to you, sound good (name)!?

(Name) you’re so enthusiastic…I’m really excited to meet you! So you know, I take my appointments very seriously…you have my word that I’ll be prepared and on time, and you’ll have my full, undivided attention! If something comes up on your end, I’m sure I can count on you to let (trainee) know ahead of time, right! Great.

Thanks again (name), if I can add value to your life in any way between now and when we visit next, you can call me at 403.606.7917.

Have a happy day!!

Prospecting Script | Initial Call STEP 3/NO

STEP 3 |Initial Call…if No

If NO:

Well (name), thank you for taking the time to chat with us today. Would it be alright with you if (trainee) keeps you posted, you know progress wise – we’re lucky to have such a team player…catching on quick and adding so much value to our SQUAD! (Trainee) will send you a link for SQUAD282 so you can follow along with the exciting things we are crossing off our bucket lists. Was there anything else from our explanation that caught your interest? Wait for response.

It would really help (trainee) if you could keep an ear open as you go about your daily life…be the friend that does the recon – here’s the low-down of what to look for:

If you hear anyone making comments like ‘Ugh, I wish I had more time, or (pause) I wish I had more money, or (pause) maybe even droning on about how badly they need a vacation or want to get back in shape.

Here’s another key to watch for, and I get this one a lot…if you run into anyone with (pause), you know (pause), hair – we’ve got a brush – the only one on the planet that detangles PAINLESSLY. Or (pause) anyone with skin (pause, just long enough to be slightly awkward)………or wrinkles……..…(pause), but seriously, our products are Paraben free, never tested on animals and contain the healing powers of The Dead Sea…so from the babies with diaper rash and the old ladies with wrinkles…them and everyone in between will be grateful when you introduce them to (trainee).

Oh yeah, and lastly just a heads up…the next time you see (trainee), you’ll most likely notice some pretty spectacular changes…so I’m letting you know in advance it’s okay to reach out and ask for more info whenever you change your mind.

Thank you again for your time (name), if I can add value to your life in any way, you can call me at 403.606.7917.

Have a happy day!!

Prospecting Scripts | Initial Call STEP 2

STEP 2 |Expert Leads the Conversation

JEN:

Hi (name), thanks for making time and being a good friend. It’s important to respect your time so I’ll get right to it…

Have you ever recommended a movie? Wait for response. Right, we all have. But have you ever recommended a movie before seeing the trailer (pause)? Kinda difficult, right! Because if you didn’t watch the trailer, how would you even know if you liked it enough to recommend it in the first place…you with me! Wait for response. What we’re doing today is exactly the same thing.

We’ve discovered a very unique and special company called SEACRET, based on Dead Sea Minerals, Salt and Mud – and since pretty much everybody likes to play in the Mud, we would like to share the unique trifecta of things that make this #sidehustle so appealing.

While we chat today, if you see value, there’s a few things you could do to help (trainee)  – don’t worry, we’re not asking you to lay down your credit card, we’re simply looking for feedback!

We appreciate your help gaining exposure for (trainee). Because the Dead Sea has unique healing properties, it’s almost certain that you’ll come across someone who will need to talk to (trainee). Fair enough? Wait for response.

If you see value in what we talk about today, consider who you might know, even yourself maybe, that would benefit by becoming a Customer, or might like to join us on this adventure as a SEACRET Agent. Remember, totally chill…no pressure, you cool with that? Wait for response.

Perfect, so, would it be alright with you if I tell you a few stories as I explain what we’ve discovered? Wait for response.

Excellent, let’s jump into it: As you’ve likely noticed, our economy has gone through some interesting flux the last few years…many people are securing their families and their futures with a Plan B – because you just never know, and why would you risk the uncertainty?

First, geographically speaking, it’s all based around the lowest point on earth – the Dead Sea – which sits thirteen-hundred-and-eighty-eight feet below sea level. For over 5,000 years, this magical body of water and the 26 Minerals within, have been renowned around the world for unique healing benefits. Many call it the 8th Wonder of the World.

Cleopatra cited The Dead Sea waters as her source for beauty and rejuvenation, she would often travel two months by camel to get there, and since she was known for her beauty, it’s obvious that it worked! She might not have understood the science, but she understood that she felt and looked great. It was her Fountain of Youth…

What sets us apart is our exclusive distribution rights to the Salt, Mud and Minerals from the Dead Sea. And what makes it so special, is that it works…immediate results that truly WOW!! Great for relief of skin challenges such as Eczema, Rosacea, Psoriasis and Acne.

Secondly, the science. As you probably know, skin is our largest organ, and as such, all sorts of things affect the appearance and health of our skin…including our diet and exercise (or the lack thereof *giggle*), the environment, stress, and even a lack of sleep.

We’ve discovered many people who are challenged with skin issues such as Eczema, Psoriasis, Rosacea and Acne. Babies aren’t immune either, they get diaper rash and sometimes Eczema from our dry climate. Skin conditions including dry skin or cracked heels doesn’t just affect adults – kids struggle with it too. We’re all prone to under eye dark circles and puffiness…and those darn wrinkles…they don’t care if you’re a man or a woman, or what you’re doing in life. Do you know anybody with these types of skin struggles? Wait for response. Allow them to elaborate if they begin telling you who they know.

All things being equal, we realized skin health isn’t so much a GIRLY thing, but rather, a HUMAN thing, and we got fired up about the potential based on the gender-neutral appeal of this product and this business. Makes sense, right? Wait for response.

Third, economies of scale. The typical North American spends, on average, $1,000 per year on personal care products. People might scale back on entertainment or eating out, but have you ever heard of someone opting out of shampoo…or soap? *giggle*. Wait for response. Me neither.

Our focus is more of a Wellness project – skin health and now nutrition…we’re creating a well-thy community of SEACRET Agents (pause) I know, it’s both awesome and cheesy, but being called a SEACRET Agent is way better than what I used to be called (pause) ‘Manager’…boo (ENTER: frowney face emoji), or what my kids call me, taxi, wallet…just kidding, I love it.

You with me so far? Wait for response.

Perfect, so to dig a little deeper…beginning in 2005, SEACRET sold over a billion dollars in 900+ retail locations across 44 countries. You know it must be a phenomenal product with that kind of success from a kiosk in malls and airports (aka the most hostile retail environment) – arguably THE hardest way to sell anything, ever…right! Wait for response.

During that time, we partnered with one of the World’s largest and most respected manufacturers – have you heard of L’Oreal? (pause) They’re a giant…they own over 500 companies, and when they announced they were going to buy us, our CEO declined their offer because – as he puts it – this is a family business and we’re building SEACRET as a community, for the community – and it is his vision, his work ethic and his determination that gets us all fired up.

Fast forward a few years…we agreed to partner with L’Oreal, so even though they don’t own us, they manufacture our products and we are the only company with the rights to manufacture directly on the shores of the Dead Sea! It’s a pretty exciting partnership, because together, we’ve combined the best of science and nature to develop and patent some of the most advanced and clinically proven wellness technologies available.

By 2012 there was a strong shift in how consumers acquired products and services. Companies like Facebook and NETFLIX were disrupting every market and changing the face of commerce. Online virtually abolished ‘window shopping’, instead, someone snapped a pic of their lunch and all of a sudden that restaurant is a booming success. SEACRET recognized this Social Economy Revolution and transitioned into relationship marketing.

In the last few years, many retail locations have closed – flagship stores like Blockbuster (remember them?), SEARS, Barns and Noble, Blacks Photography, Radio Shack, and Toys R’ Us…sadly, I could go on and on. You know the world is changing when more than 700 McDonald’s locations have closed down.

Recently, companies like Amazon, eBay and Apple.com have dominated…click-and-order has demolished the brick-and-mortar business model. Airbnb is the largest supplier of hotel rooms, yet they don’t own even a single room. Uber essentially took over the taxi industry, yet they don’t own any vehicles. The economy is changing and if you don’t keep up, you get left behind.

Today, the skin care industry represents a two-hundred-and-sixteen-billion-dollar a year business. Perhaps more impressive, is that experts project that number will soar during the next two years or so, to north of four-hundred-billion-dollars (pause) per year!! Did you know skin care was such a mammoth industry? Wait for response.

To summarize…after pivoting to relationship marketing, SEACRET has successfully launched in seven countries around the world during the last seven years…and we’re growing! Because of the healing properties, we aren’t selling skin care, but rather servicing our customers by introducing them to a relief solution for common skin concerns and becoming Servant leaders to others who want to share SEACRET as well.

When we connected the dots and put this trifecta together, we began to get excited. Then, as discovered that 62% of our workforce is men we got really excited, because that proved this is a viable Plan B (and for some a Plan A) for ALL of the people we know; equal opportunity for men and women, regardless of previous experience, geographic location, warm market or free time. This is a sidehustle we can talk to our kids about at the dinner table and we’re very proud to be redefining the market by doing things differently.

Many of our SEACRET Agents are getting paid every week, sometimes every day, by helping others share with our franchise-like-business-system! Pretty good space to be in for a sidehustle, wouldn’t you agree? Wait for response. Could you handle getting paid every day? Wait for response.

That’s why (trainee) was very excited to call you today, to see if it would be alright with you if we shared some information about this wellness project in person over the next couple of days? Wait for response. If it works for you, either now, soon, or in the future, you can help by gathering an audience either in person or online to experience some of (trainee’s) favourite products.

Now allow me to ask – what piqued your interest the most? Supporting (trainee) by becoming a VIP Customer or hosting an experience as an Influencer to earn your products free and half price? Perhaps being supported in your own #sidehustle and becoming a SEACRET Agent? Can we get you some more information? Wait for response.

Prospecting Script| Invite call STEP 1

After 15-years of trial and error in the profession of Network or Relationship Marketing, Jen Conrad has blueprinted the invite call. Study this. Share it with your teams. Have explosive success.

Thanks for being a #changeagent and helping us redefine the industry. We’d love it if you tell us what worked best for you, so leave your testimonial so we can share the love.

The Buddy System

Introducing your Seacret #sidehustle on behalf of your new Agent, the desired outcome is to get approval to discuss further. We are collecting decisions – simply sorting people from their prospect list – into Yes, tell me more or No thank you, not at this time. If they say No, they are saying No to the trainer, not to the new Agent. Holding hands through this initial process eliminates new Agents from ‘machine-gunning’ their warm market, and from them losing momentum if their friends and family don’t respond well to their initial ask.

There is science behind all of the ‘Wait for Response’ parts. You are collecting Yes’s along the way, which subconsciously makes it easy for the prospect to agree when you ask them for the close.

To show your new Agent immediate success, we make calls together for a few reasons:

1. The expert has better posture and is better able to communicate effectively.  Likely, the Expert won’t get dissuaded by a little push back from the prospect, whereas the trainee might panic and hang up immediately before completing the ask.

2. To control the conversation, and the impression prospects are getting about our brand, as well as the industry overall.

3. Demonstrating how the support system works to illustrate for potential new Agents that they don’t have to do it alone. If they want to join us they can expect the same level of assistance.

4. If the prospect has industry experience, our different system will become immediately apparent, and might be attractive as a viable #sidehustle for them.

STEP 1 | Trainee initiates the phone call

Either sitting together or being already connected on a 3-way call, the trainee makes the dial *no small talk* and begins like this:

TRAINEE:

Hi (name), it’s (trainee), I know it’s been a while and we’re due for a good catch-up…but before we do that, I’m hoping you will help me out with something. I’m working a few hours a week – kind of a sidehustle – with my friend Jen. She’s here with me now actually, and we’ve been wanting to test something out – I’d really appreciate your wisdom and feedback…do you have a few minutes to chat? Wait for response.

You’re awesome…thank you. I’m excited for you guys to chat…just quickly so you’re not complete strangers, I’ve mentioned to her a few of my favourite things about you and likewise, Jen is helping me understand the importance of, and how to substantiate a Plan B in this economy. I know she knows what she’s talking about because for the last 16-years – instead of working all day like I’ve been – she chooses to spend most of her time helping people like me, earn as they learn with the system she’s created. I respect her as a leader and trainer, and she’s got a unique perspective which showed me I was looking for a mindset – in fact, a community – not simply an opportunity.

So…Jen this is (friends name), (friends name) this is Jen.

*Trainee REMAINS MUTED and SILENT for remainder of the call.*

All it takes is concentration… | MKE Year 3 Week 16

Manifest your ideal | A ‘how-to’ guide [in progress…]

I’ve worn my ability to multi-task like a badge of honour for as long as I can remember…turns out, what I thought was among my greatest strengths has actually been, perhaps, my greatest weakness.

When focusing on one thing at a time the results are astounding…the quality of work rises, and the task is actually completed faster. A recent Stanford Multi-Tasking Study found that when we multi-task we are actually less organized, retain less information and are unable to filter out distractions. Science has proven that it takes less energy to succeed than it does to fail. Imagine that!

This Quad | Far Quad visual is a pretty accurate (and entertaining) descriptor of how easy it is to get distracted…it personifies the reason why multi-tasking is a trap and how so many people can easily fall into its clutches. Also, it’s funny because it’s true.

farquad

(Wish I knew the origin so I could give appropriate props and accolades to the genius behind this…)

Consider what your old blueprint is telling you…

Why do we continue to do things that we know are not effective?

Why do we keep running on the proverbial ‘Hamster Wheel of Life’?

Enough already.

You control your destiny…and it’s achieved by the tiny steps we take day-in-and-day-out to direct our lives down the path of our choosing.

Charles F. Hannel repeatedly teaches that “Knowledge does not apply itself”…we’ve got to make the application.

John P. Wooden says that a Dream Without a Plan is just a Fantasy.

“All it takes is concentration.” Charles F. Hannel

For all the List Makers out there, the last ‘To-do List’ you’ll ever need is: Plan the work.  Work the plan. Schedule the most important activity FIRST…literally, write it into your schedule.  Actually do the most important activity first. And be nice to yourself.

It’s simple. Focus + concentrate and STOP MULTI-TASKING. Keep distractions separate.  Let go of what you do not need. Instead, focus on the most important activity. Cling to what you do need, and manifest your ideal.

A line that sticks with me from the movie ‘The Help’ is this…

“You are smart.  You are kind.  You are important.”

What am I missing?? | MKE Year 3 Week 13

I’ve realized something pretty epic…the more I learn the less I actually know. I guess that means I’m succeeding and struggling. A truth that sucks sometimes…in an awe-inspiring kind of way.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been trying to merge what I’m learning – and un-learning for that matter – with what I’ve been living by…my JennyJenJenCode…my Jennergy.

Feels like I’ve been in an endless battle-of-the-wits between my past and my future. A bizarre, torturous, but yet glorious 2-steps-forward-1-step-backwards kind of dance; a crusade, blinded by ritual and orchestrated upon half truths, hazy directions, and good intentions. Packed with enough misinformation to provide a lifetime of adversity, righteous autonomy [just enough to retain my sanity], and a scattering of Universal favour to remind me I am indeed, Very Blessed and Highly Favoured.

I see now how everything I’ve done in the past has shaped my current reality, and for that I’m so great-ful [both great, and full of gratitude].

Yet I feel like I’ve been under a perpetual fog for a decade and a half. I seem to be able to master anything and everything I touch – yet I have no idea what truly drives me.

I’ve become so astute at figuring out the correlation between all things…connecting the dots…it continues to amaze me that I still can’t figure out what the hell I’m doing here, on earth?? Shit.

Every once in a while, I am graced with quick, temporary glimpses of purpose, fleeting moments of fulfilment that have the power to fill you up again – if you let it. If I let them. I promise I will let them.

question mark header image lightbulb

Why can’t I picture what I want?

Why can’t I narrow down what I am working towards?

Why am I stuck?

WHAT DO I WANT?

aargh.

Marianne Williamson had it right; it really is my light, not my darkness that scares me the most.

We are never prepared for what we expect. — James Mitchner

So, what am I pretending not to know?

If the future me doesn’t know, and doesn’t care about my history…she doesn’t know what I’ve struggled with – doesn’t know what I am struggling with…the future me simply moves forward, free of bias or limitations. Then, sadly, it is my current self who brings all the baggage from my past along for the ride. My future, in and of itself, is baggage free.

So as I walk you through the evolution of my thoughts, so too, you will witness the evolution of my DNA for once I realize that I know what I once did not know, the old me is no longer.

What do I want to be known for?

What’s my Legacy? My Dynasty?

I enjoy helping people, I enjoy leading people, helping them think. This constitutes a big part of my DNA. We should choose ourselves who we believe in…I believe in myself. Developing more confidence throughout the MKE course and realizing I’ve got to think for myself! If nothing is happening towards my DMP, it means I’m doing nothing towards my DMP. Very simple. Harsh reality. Truth really does hurt.

It fills my cup when people spend time with me and feel better about themselves as a result.  I need to remember that I am having an effect on other people…there’s no logical explanation of the ripple effect, but big or small, I am having an effect.

Constant thoughts of gratitude are a great form of beauty. You can put yourself in the way of beauty – there’s a sunrise and a sunset everyday and you can choose to be there for it.

Talking about my personal evolution…thinking for myself…how beautiful is that. By the end of 2018, this sentence will ring true and pure for me, but right now it’s pretty scary.

Once I let go and expected that I could do anything that I wanted, it became very easy to say I LOVE YOU in the mirror 100x daily.

Your intuition – the way in which the Universe speaks to you.

Your happiness is in direct proportion to the degree you listen to your intuition and follow it. The degree to which you suppress your intuition and live a lie is the degree to which you will suffer and experience misery. You choose.

Sometimes, you will not be able to see where you are going in life—clearly. But know your Soul’s inner GPS will guide you home. You will find that you will be the right person, at the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing, rightly. 🙂

How many times have you had a gut feeling about a person or a situation?

An innate confidence that you know what needs to be done?

How many times have you not listened to that voice?

We have all done that.

Yet, we all have that sense and inner guidance. Not listening to it is costly, often more than not costing you your happiness.

Intuition is the sense that arises from the deepest part of your soul. Intuition is the pure impulse of your Soul; nudging you in the direction of your highest path. Intuition is beyond your mind, your logic…your emotions. Emotions are often rooted in your past conditioning…forming personality and character.

If you’re willing to be honest, truly, when faced with a tough decision, often times we will instinctively know what to do. Yet, we constantly question ourselves:

What if I am wrong?

What should I do?

What if it doesn’t turn out like I plan?

How can I be sure?

Let’s discuss the curse of the ‘I don’t know’ excuse. Truth is, if you confess your deepest truth, then you no longer have any excuses not to move forward or take action. Immediate action.

What don’t you want to acknowledge or admit?

What are you convincing yourself you are confused about?

Forget all that. Instead, trust your intuition. Think HAPPY thoughts.

You know what to do.

What causes one thing to flourish, or to die, or to take another course. Everything has taught me something. Everything I’ve done are the  exact things that got me to where I am today. And I wouldn’t change a single thing about my journey for there’s no way to know what makes one thing to lead to another.

For everything my path has taught me. And for everything I couldn’t yet know. I won’t even know where I am going until I get there. My life, like all lives, mysterious, irrevocable and sacred. So very close. So very present. So very belonging to me. And how wild it was to let it be.

-WILD (a movie I discovered on Netflix late NYE 2017)

A [True] LOVE Story | MKE Year 3 Week 6

6f3a0802-0d7d-4296-9761-6921757d3dcc

Would it be alright with you if I share a personal story?

It takes place on an enchanted island and as with all great LOVE stories, there are dragons, and best friends who giggle until it hurts … but most of all, it’s about falling in LOVE! And everybody knows that LOVE lets us see ordinary things in an extraordinary way.

But first, a little back of the story…

Cute dragonLooking back on my life before MKE, it was as though I had spent my previous 11,111 days on this planet on auto-pilot. I hadn’t yet clued in that I had been trapped in survival-mode; a prison of my own making. The Dragons keeping close watch to ensure my subconscious shackles were secure [sadly, I am the Dragon].

You see, back then, me and my life-goals…we weren’t that tight. I’d done a pretty good job of repeatedly proving that the life I was living wasn’t getting me anywhere other than exactly where I already was. My current trajectory wasn’t going to help me reach my hopes and dreams, mostly because I didn’t even have a clear understanding of what those hopes and dreams were in the first place.

Where’s the disconnect?

As kids, we embrace valiant dreams and celebrate the grandeur of dreaming big…of becoming Astronauts, or Presidents, or Rocket Scientists – living our own truths with adventurous delight from inside Macaroni Spaceships that we’re certain will transport us to the Moon every day after school. Yet somewhere along the way, we abandon our innocence and lose sight of our innate greatness. We grow older, but we forget to actually live. We take on the weight of societal expectations; abandoning our backyard dreams for some version of ‘Keeping up with Joneses’…

Life was blah. Work was blah. Friendships were hard because life was blah. You get it. Sad. Perhaps even pathetic. Boring for sure.

Without warning or apology, the unremarkable days

morphed into unremarkable nights,

which morphed back into more unremarkable days.

And slowly…

…the days became weeks

…the weeks became months

… and the months became years

until the years themselves faded into a

c o m p l a c e n t   b l u r   o f   m  e  d  i  o  c  r  i  t  y.

What had I been doing with my life??

When did I become comfortable with stagnation?

Why did I stop believing I deserved more?

Did I have any confidence left…or was I drained out of my through the ever-losing battle that exists when raising teenagers?

Until this one time, in 2015 – it hit me: If I could believe in Santa for like 10-years, why couldn’t I believe in myself for 5-minutes? And so began my journey back towards myself…

Introspection led me to a friend who aimed me towards becoming a self-directed thinker, and in late Spring 2015, we embarked on a 13-day adventure-of-a-lifetime together to Kaua’i, Hawaii.

Arriving a few days before the start of the business conference, I kicked off my flip flops, grabbed my Maui Jim’s and a good book, and headed for the beach…my only agenda: to spend time taking in the wonderment and beauty of Hawaii [it had been an unusually cold and long winter in Calgary, Canada…by the way, when people in Calgary use the term ‘pearly whites’ we aren’t referring to our teeth – but rather our legs … nearly transparent and pale as a ghost from being hidden beneath layers of clothing -24/7 while trying to prevent hypothermia]…but forgive me, I digress…

Turns out, the Master Key Experience Live Event was wrapping up, and as luck would have it, some of the residual ‘awe’ – in my opinion: the essence of the event – rubbed off on me and that’s when everything changed. True story!!

As the conference began, I consciously set aside my past experiences, my bias, and what I thought I already knew, and committed to participating with an open heart and an open mind, and to simply let the event do its thing. Trusting and believing that some of the magic and energy I felt radiating from people who had attended the Master Key Master Mind Alliance Live Event, would also extend into the course I was taking, seeing as the same hosts were facilitating both events…and man, was I ever in for a treat!!

Attending conference by day, and exploring the island by night changed my life. For the first time in a very long time I remembered who I was. A clarity descended upon me as I observed – silently, and with complete childlike wonder, as the true Jen lurched herself to the foreground from deep down inside me where I had been, quite accidentally, keeping her captive. I discovered more about myself in 2-weeks than I had during my previous 34 trips around the sun.

I was able to understand more clearly, and to my astonishment, effortlessly. Up until that very moment, everything had been a struggle. This re-introduction to my true and purest self annihilated the introverted, reserved, hesitant versions of self that I cloaked myself in while trying to ‘fit in’ with society. The clarity simultaneously silenced my fears of the unknown, yet was successful at reassuring me that everything was going to be alright. Better than alright actually. I was finally free.

I fell in love with the person I’m meant to be…

Calm, yet bursting with excitement

Surrendered, yet in complete control

Responsible, yet free-spirited

Daring and brave, yet grounded and realistic

Humble, yet confident

Sweet, yet strong

And as I shed my many false cloaks and embraced the true me…I noticed that I became one with the wonder of Hawaii with this group of spectacular human beings; and for this I feel very blessed and highly favoured.

The sensation of being alive suddenly became completely intoxicating. It was as if I was experiencing everything for the very first time…

The kiss of the ocean breeze felt warmer as it sailed against my skin

The food tasted richer – I could sense the nourishment delivered throughout my body

Hugs from strangers reached right down into the forgotten depths of my being

Emotions resonated directly into my essence; into my soul

My brain was forging new neuro pathways – I could literally feel myself evolving

I could hear and feel the gears spinning as I turned my back to years of cement and revered in the delight of chipping away at it. It was as if a lifetime worth of passion, intense desires and enlightenment descended upon me in an instant, like a ray of sunshine bursting through the clouds on a rainy day. I grasped concepts as I never had before, as if the veil of confusion had been lifted and tossed aside.

Every cell in my body felt like it was on fire! As though I had been selected and blessed directly by the Gods, and was being escorted to my bliss on the wings of angels.

I felt so alive – wildly excited to learn and to grow and to evolve..I was not only willing to, but eager to let down my guards and allow my sun to shine brightly. Finally, I was able to just, be me.

LOVE lets us see ordinary things in an extraordinary way

The course that began the following September – the Master Key Experience – taught me that to find these answers I need do nothing more than SIT – to cut through the clutter, disperse the noise, and truly listen to the Beautiful Silence. It was better than having all the answers…I had connected with who I am and why I’m here, and I knew that I AM the answers…I didn’t need to ‘find’ them because they were already inside me.

And it was this life changing adventure that truly taught me about LOVE. Surrounded by like minded people, eager and willing to support me along my journey as they too progressed along their own. These were my people. Here, I felt was at home.

I discovered a few valuable life lessons that have literally changed my DNA; changing how I think, erasing old blueprints, opening my mind to the possibility of new possibilities:

  • That the LOVE for myself is the foundation for all other LOVE
  • That how I see the world changes when looking thru the lens of LOVE [empathy, compassion, understanding, tolerance, patience]
  • In order to be loved how I urned to be loved, I needed to first learn how to LOVE myself

Thank you so much for joining me on this adventure. I’d love to hear about your LOVE too!

Love,

Jen

Curious what moved me this time last year?

Social Economy Revolution

Serious change is upon us…the world is experiencing the biggest shift any of us have seen in our lifetimes…a shift towards a performance economy. In the future, you will no longer be paid for your time; rather, you’ll be paid strictly for your performance.

Here’s how the world used to work:

The rise of the Corporation was the norm, and represented a safe place to exist in the world:

Step 1: go to school and learn how to be an employee

Step 2: find a company that will employ you

Step 3: work for that company for 40 years

Step 4: retire

When people realized the loyalty and hard work they were giving wasn’t being given in return, and a different process evolved…

Step 1: go to school and learn how to be an employee

Step 2: find a company that will employ you

Step 3: switch companies for various political an economic reasons every 3-5 years over the course of your career

Step 4: find that you can’t retire comfortably after 40 years so you keep working

This is what will become of virtually every job…in fact, it is already happening in some professions:

  • People in the food industry already live this reality; they earn a small hourly wage (required by law) and make their living through tips, based on their performance.
  • The person cleaning the hotel rooms will no longer be paid by the hour, instead, by the room.
  • Office workers will find a lower base salary and performance incentives if they hit certain performance benchmarks on a monthly basis. Now the pressure is on and the company is loving it…if you don’t hit your targets they’ll save even more money and if you do, guess what’s going to happen – they’ll raise the requirements.

If this hasn’t already happened to you, it will.           Count on it.

The evolution of the Performance Economy has begun.

Robot economy pouring beer

According to Eric Worre, here is the ULTIMATE BUSINESS and PERFECT CAREER LIST, summarized from people over 30 countries:

What people don’t want: No boss. No commute. No alarm clock. No employees. No politics. No compromises. No discrimination. No educational requirement.

Using their imagination in a more positive way, here are some more positive attributes: Great product or service. Unlimited income. Residual income. Enjoy the people you work with. Time freedom. Something meaningful. Personal growth. Lots of perks. International. Contribution to worthy causes. Low overhead. Low risk. Low start up cost. Economy proof. Tax benefits. Fun.

As the economy shifts, most people end up with more month than money and are faced to scale back, sell items, or take a second job. Here are some of the typical considerations:

Types of jobs (according to Wikipedia and Eric Worre):

Blue Collar - working class

Blue Collar: A member of the working class who performs manual labor. Somebody who labors to fix something, make something, clean something, build something, or service something or someone.

white-collar-crimes

White Collar: A person who performs Professional, Managerial or Administrative work. A person who’s employed by someone else to do work other than manual labor or sales. (One of the most socially acceptable options available. Long viewed as the safe and secure option. The previous mentality of ‘if I’m loyal to the company, the company will be loyal to me’ is now long gone.)

sales job image

Sales: More adventurous than a typical white collar job because people are paid on their production, instead of by the hour. It is not unheard of for sales people to achieve wild success, when they do, they almost always set their lifestyle to that standard. When times get tough, they work more hours to make the same amount of money…so while they have the stuff, they don’t have the time to enjoy it.

Another challenge for the sales career is that no matter how a person does, they still start at zero the next day, and it can be tiring to live under that kind of pressure for a prolonged period of time.

Blow your hair back image

Traditional Business Ownership: The details vary a bit, but in general the process goes something like this:

  • Use life savings, take on additional debt via personal loans from family, friends or banks to get started.
  • Focus on everything other than what you’re good at – must be all things to all people. Time of and sleep are unlikely.
  • After everyone else is paid, you might have enough leftover to pay your own bills. Likely not enough to pay down your debt from Step 1 though.
  • Concede, give up your dream, and re-join the sales force with massive debt and a broken ego.

Investing weigh scales

Investor: Basically, unless you’re extremely specialized, it’s safe to consider this philanthropy rather than investing.

The New Economy Needs Fewer People

Exponential rise of technology has changed everything.

  • 100 years ago, 90% of population worked in agriculture…today, it’s less than 1%…
  • Remember call centres? You used to talk to an actual person, now you talk to a computer…
  • Companies used to have large sales forces, now people order online
  • What about Blockbuster and all of it’s employees…now people stream movies to their handheld or tablet devices…

…and those jobs are gone!

Robot economy pouring beer

Much like the children of farmers saw what was happening and left Farming for new vocations, the same thing is happening in Old Economy jobs. To survive, people need to open their eyes to this new reality and find something new.

Technology and efficiency are eliminating jobs everyday and there’s nothing we can do to stop it; in fact, it’s only going to accelerate.

Just because technology now reigns supreme, doesn’t trump the fact that…

  • …there are still products that need to be promoted…
  • …consumers still need to be educated…
  • …buyers are more discerning than ever to price and quality, because endless information is literally available at the touch of a button…

For the people who recognize this fact, it will be the best of times; for those who don’t, this change will be the worst of times.

Society is moving away from traditional forms of advertising and is rapidly embracing word-of-mouth because it continues to work better than any other form of promotion.

Aside from Super Bowl, when was the last time you volunteered to watch a commercial? PayPerView and OnDemand TV have eliminated the relevance of the commercial.

Hello, AMAZON Prime. In what reality do malls survive where people can quickly and efficiently order what they want and have it shipped directly to their front door with out the hassle and expense of going to the mall? Right…SEARS, ToysR’Us…

UBER rewards referrals with an account credit. Some banks pay hefty bonuses for . And restaurants. And retail stores (what’s left of them). Companies that offer products or services recognize this Social Economy Revolution and are rewarding loyalty with points programs and referral incentives.

Referral Marketing is the new – preferred – form of advertising. Companies aren’t utilizing large and expensive sales forces’, instead, more and more companies choose to provide Corporate support and pay distributors on a purely performance basis to promote their products, thereby utilizing Network Marketing to tell their stories.

More and more, companies will choose to use Network Marketing because it fits the new economy. The best way I know to not only survive, but thrive in the new economy is this Profession.

Network Marketing isn’t perfect…it’s just better.

You must accept [read: embrace] a temporary loss in social esteem from ignorant people.

benjaminfranklin1

For a while, people living in and trying to function within the old system will think less of you. They won’t understand.

You are seeing the future before it becomes apparent to anyone else. You are the smart one. You are taking action to live a better life.

The allure of getting paid for someone else’ efforts is powerful, but often badly misunderstood.

More often than not, this is what goes through the Lind of virtually every person who decides to get involved:

Hmm, I can think of 5 or 6 people who might do this too. My sister would be great. My friend knows lots of people. I know this other person who loves this kind of thing and would be amazing. Okay, I’ll join.

In other words, they aren’t joining a Profession, they’re just hoping to get lucky. They’re hoping to sign up a few people to cover their own start up costs and sit back and wait for the money to roll in. They haven’t started a real business, they’ve just purchased a glorified lottery ticket.

Imagine a lottery ticket with 6 scratch off spots – those spots represent the people they think most certainly will join, they approach those people and try to get them to join, but because of their lack of skill, most of them end up with nothing, just like the lottery ticket. And since they’ve acted in unskilled ignorance, they may have damaged some friendships or relationships along the way.

So, they rip up the lottery ticket, and instead of taking responsibility for not really starting their business, they blame Network Marketing and make sure to tell the world “Look, I’ve been there. Done that. I talked to every person I know and NM just doesn’t work; save your money.”

If you choose this as a Profession, that’s what you’re up against…the opinions of ignorant people who think they have done it right and it doesn’t work.

Well, news flash:

  • If some people are making a lot of money, then it’s not the compensation plans’ fault.
  • If some people are selling a ton of product, then it’s not the products’ fault.
  • If some people are going on the all-inclusive paid vacations, then it’s not the companies’ fault.

Responsibility rests 100% on our own shoulders. If you can embrace this, the world is yours, and in this Profession, you will get paid BIG money.

In contrast, Network Marketing Companies want to pay you more, not less like traditional Corporations.

They will pay unlimited amounts to people

who can help blind people see,

who can educate the ignorant,

and who can build a community of like-minded people.

The world as we know it has changed. If you’re going to be paid on performance anyway,  why live with the cap??

[7 Steps to Becoming a Network Marketing Professional]

MKE10 | Super Hero Complex

Automatic strength. The kind I don’t have to negotiate with my body – or my mind -for…I simply will it, on demand. Endless reservoirs of back up power, available at the blink of an eye.

This is the strong me. The kind of ‘lift-a-car-off-your-kid’ in an emergency kind of innate strength. Not a front, rather truly a part of who I am. While this strength has proven to be available, yet completely exhausting. Calling upon this strength comes with a huge cost – it requires at least 4x the energy expended in order to recover.

In times like this, I find it helpful to remember that This Too Shall Pass.

ENTER: SURVIVAL MODE

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had to do it all. My independence streak runs deep. For better, or for worse. Won’t bore you with the details – and I certainly don’t want pity…

Rough childhood would be putting it mildly. Raised my sisters since elementary school. Moved out at 13. Raised my son since I myself, was a child. Working to pay bills. Paying bills instead of being alive. Its become a really bad habit – putting myself second to everything.

Keeping busy being busy. Jumping around wearing so many hats – and I’m not sure exactly why anymore.

So now, I’ve got myself strung so tight…I’ve got this big house that no one can be bothered to help me with. Trying to complete a University degree [failing, quite miserably]. While working way too much because one income simply isn’t enough to maintain a lifestyle – not an overly grandiose or pretentious one either – simply a roof, some food and a vehicle.

There's no way I was born to just pay bills and die

During a temporary lapse in sanity this Spring, I adopted two adorable puppy-brothers (super glad I did though) because they provide enduring Happiness as I deal with the burdens of everyday life.

While slogging through year eight of an exhausting civil-legal following an MVA, which, now forces me to endure chronic, daily, lower body pain – for which, I take extensive pain killers [prescribed, of course]. When those don’t cut it, I get to choose between quarterly cortisone injections, or perhaps medical marijuana in order to be able to walk, to sit, to drive, to sleep…to function without numb fingers or a stabbing pain from my left buttock down to the bottom of my toes. So many exciting options.

As an added bonus, I also have Acne. And Grey hair. Neither are fun, but seeing Sara giggle because she thinks it’s hilarious lifts my spirits. But let’s get serious…teenagers – either awesome or horrible. Not much middle ground there. Somewhere in there…all the house stuff (groceries, banking, Christmas cards, etc.). So, unfortunately, it goes without saying that I don’t often ask for help. Even when people offer help, I’m apt to thank them profusely, then politely decline. Insistently. To a fault.

Stubborn pride…

This is my weakness – which I’ve been [not-so-cleverly] parading around as strength.

I’m learning [the hard way] that what I have perceived as strength for a really long time, is actually my kryptonite.

ENTER: RECLUSION [also known as AVOIDANCE]

Thought I’d share that in an effort to spare a you the trouble…

Avoidance is not a strategy, FYI.

When my ‘f^*k-it-bucket’ quota breaches the brim, I shut everything down…finding solace in the darkness and reprieve in the quiet. If I’ve shut you out at some point, been a bad friend and not called, not responded or reached out – I apologize…it’s a glitch in my auto-response, and I’m – finally – aware of it. Thankfully. But perhaps more importantly, I see a way to change it.

ENTER: FORGETFULNESS [usually hangs out with STRESS]

I can go days and totally forget things. We’re talking urgent things. The more I stack on my plate, the worse it gets. Forgetful. Then stressed. Or stressed. Then forgetful. As if the sequence of events matters – they come as a package deal – and collectively, they’re a ticking time bomb.

Money is – unfortunately – the King of my castle; holding my sanity and dreams prisoner.

If the Prince represents the KEY to achieving the life I KNOW I was born to live…unfolding all the answers and solutions to what’s been holding me back…

And the Damsel in Distress represents my oh-so-coveted Autonomy and Legacy…

… then …

The busy things I’ve been filling my life with represent the Vigilant Dragon, guarding who the Castle Keep. Sadly, I am the Dragon.

ENTER: OVERCOMING OVERWHELM

Sometimes I find life extremely overwhelming – but when I stop and really observe what’s going on…take a mental inventory of all the moving parts.

My next breakthrough is only slightly out of reach, sitting precariously perched atop the pivot-point of the Teeter-Totter of life…the irony of it all…

…is that my weight is on both sides.

What I have done in the past weighs on the low end, versus what I need to do to move forward and bring about new results on the other.

I realize that at the exact moment when I recognize the overwhelm – when I’m about to admit defeat…that very moment is in fact the fulcrum…

…whether I choose to concede and continue hammering out rock solid, gold metal worthy projects for someone else…or…persist until I succeed…and work as hard for myself as I do for other people.

ENTER: VULNERABILITY

This one I need to negotiate with myself in order draw it out. This is for sure not in my DNA – but I promise you I am trying to write it into my code because I recognize the tremendous power of it all.

When my Greatness begins to shine is exactly when Resistance – the Universal Dream Stealer – throws more obstacles into my path. Relentlessly. Fortunately, I am both knowledgeable and wise when it comes to these old tricks – because I analyze when things seem insurmountable, I can easily recognize patterns.

Over the years, the lessons have proven – again and again – that it truly is darkest before dawn, yet when it seems all light has been extinguished, a flicker still remains – found within the innate strength we talked about earlier.

This is confirmation from the Universe that I’m doing the right things to attract Autonomy and Legacy, verifying I’m on the right path. Because as we determined earlier, it’s always darkest before dawn, and I can say with confidence that the Sun is always shining in my world, so it’s this magical decision between old and new, between stuck and free, between my past and my future – this simple decision is where the magic happens!!

The warrior within takes the lead and carries on. Paying no heed to the crippling circumstance, blissfully ignorant to the seemingly insurmountable odds, instead – like a champion – ploughing through the obstacle course of life…reliable…relentless…victorious. This is one facet of my Valkyrie.

ENTER: RECLAIMING CONTROL

Running around doing all the stuff that isn’t moving me closer to my goals and all I want to be doing is building a secret business watching Tracey suffer a yes or no true residual income meanwhile I’m going to work showing condos my daughters at home contemplating suicide and I’m driving all around and doing all the work and completely neglecting my house and my myself my daughter I’m not there I’m not present as a parent and making somebody else rich doing it.

Enough. This is how I feel about my ability to push through – *Facing the Giants | Death Crawl Scene*

It’s my turn now. I’m going to affix my own mask – or I will be unable to help others achieve their own greatness…not on my back, rather by my side.

Theory that people need identity outside of parent only or kids move out and they go crazy. So what kind of super hero have you been facading as? I REALIZED I don’t need to choose just one response – I simply need to control the extenuating circumstances in my life so that all of my strong suits can operate harmoniously.

I am whole, harmonious, peaceful, happy, humble, caring and kind.

PRESS RELEASE The Truck Stops Here | Disconnecting Your Subconscious Shackles

Jennifer Hope Conrad named New York Times’ Best-Selling Author; launches book tour

(Kaua’i, Hawaii, 14 March 2018) Jennifer Hope Conrad, Author of The Truck Stops Here, and Founder of The Cratos Group Inc., speaks with us in a rapid fire Q&A about her best-selling book and upcoming North American book tour.

The Truck Stops Here       |      Disconnecting Your Subconscious Shackles

                                                           (a Mindset Shift, not a How-To Guide)

In addition to her new book, Jen has shared her mindset management theory on Ellen, and has a loyal – and growing – group of followers connecting with her via her weekly BLOG, YouTube channel, website and social media pages.  Jen also runs monthly webinars where people can connect farther through opt-in 1:1 coaching where Jennifer will speak with you directly, hear your story, and help you identify patterns in your own life, then work with you to create strategies to move past your own repeating challenges. Her mantra is “make new mistakes”, because, she notes, “then at least, you’ll be learning new lessons.”

Jennifer is known and respected as a thought leader specializing in horizon-expanding mindset management. This book explores her theory and gives the reader tangible evidence and insight into her thought processes – perhaps more of a thesis actually, that ‘trauma does not have to be traumatic’.

In the beginning…

“Jennifer’s originality and innovation shines through in all she does,” says Mark Januszewski, The Worlds Laziest Networker.  “Jen was in town for the Go90Grow session of Summer 2016, it was during this conference that our individual magnificence couldn’t help but collide – the synergy was unmistakably magnetic.”

Mark went on to comment, “Our first meeting was at the Kaua’i Beach Resort in summer 2016…the Fabulous Davene and I had set final preparations underway for the meet-and-greet in the ballroom.  For one night (which had a reputation of creating some #LifeChanging relationships and opportunities for our #MKMMA members) both the #MKE and #Go90Grow classes converged, personifying an evening of networking and friendship among some of the most personally aware people on the planet.”

As Jen and I settled in together at the corner table on the Lanai, Mark continued, “we reminisced of the first time that we sat in this very spot…a hot August afternoon in 2016, roasting under the mid-day sun, hearing Jen’s account of the drive into our compound and hearing her list the details of why Kaua’i is as awe-inspiring as it is, brought me back to the feeling when we were first exploring the island.  I could see that Jen’s soul was on a similar journey and I was excited to be part of the wonder that I was certain would fill her life in short order.  Jen has recounted on numerous occasions over the past two or so years how much that first conversation impacted her…while reminding me that she was careful to not attribute her success to me as ‘the guy!’, but rather as a beacon of light at the end of a long, windy, treacherous trail filled with tribulations and false starts.”

In preparation to turn the floor over to Jen’s #MasterMind team, Januszewski took one last trip down memory lane, and with a sigh of contentment stated: “Over the past year or so, Jen has often commented that from the moment of our initial discussion, her mind set to link the pieces that she described as previously missing as she launched herself towards a goal so lofty; a cause so great, that no fulcrum known to mankind could possess the strength to knock her out of balance with her burning desire.  She was committed to finally drawing out the full wonder that had been entrusted to her…and it was quite moving to see her light shine so brightly.  I knew right then that I had to get to know her story and, as they say, the rest, as they say, is history.”

And now, a word from her Fan Club…

“Her entrepreneurial vision helped navigate her research and passion through tough times – forming clever strategic alliances, introducing awe-inspiring processes and made sure she investigated every opportunity in an economy that really didn’t support new ideas, change, or…well it really didn’t support anything at all.” noted Sandra Coates, a long-time family friend.

Sandra went on to comment “We are so blessed to be among those closest to her!”  she looked over to Jen and flashed a smile so wide everyone in the room could feel the love and exclaimed “Jenny, they don’t get any better than you!” and as she finished her sentence, she approached with a hug so fierce that you’d think their lives depended on the connection of their bodies.

I remember thinking for a mere second ‘That’s what unconditional love looks like’, – sadly, as quickly as I entered that blissful state Jen’s younger sister, Melissa, effectively diminished my euphoria upon declaring prior to any audible pause…“she’s always been a great friend…she taught me how to fight, both in terms of knocking someone’s block off, and doing the same for any other problem in my way!”  I thought Jen had some kind of superpower – she never let anything get her down…her focus didn’t change regardless of friends, or situations, or the weather.  She knew she was doing the right thing or she simply didn’t do it.  Nothing would change that, her course was set.”

Melissa decreed her admiration from underneath a devilishly grin and continued with a sigh as she looked up from underneath her crook’d brow, sporting a smirk that I was positive concealed a million stories, encapsulated with a lifetime worth of trouble to boot!  After drawing one deep, staggered breath Melissa continued “Life was always an adventure when we got to experience it through Jen’s eyes!  She got herself into – and perhaps more importantly out of some of the most outrageous scenarios!!  Never a dull moment, that’s for sure…” she trailed off once again, clearly lost in memories, admission of which was only slightly acknowledged as the corner of her ivory sleeve dipped in to the side of the salsa dish, repeatedly.  “The maid is off until Tuesday so who cares…” she muttered as she nonchalantly filled another chip, again dragging her sleeve through the bowl.

“For the most part…” she continued, as she crunched the last few bites of her lime flavoured tortilla chip, “…as I saw it, life was a constant uphill battle for Jen.  To me, the majority of it seemed impossible at every turn.  I often thought she was nuts to push on – but despite the pain and discomfort and all the bulls**t, Jen never took her eye off the finish line.  She never gave up and I’m so proud of her for that!”

Sandra was sitting with her back to the sun, wearing one of those sunhats that you’d expect to see on royalty or on a cruise ship full of ladies who just sat for afternoon tea and crumpets – you know, the ones with the floppy sides.  Calmly, Sandra gently raised the infliction in her voice to match Melissa’s – it was as if they didn’t miss a single beat – almost as though one thought was flowing directly from Melissa’s head into hers “Jen’s story has touched so many people!  Not only in the 10+ years since the accident, but we’ve traced her influence all the way back to her youth.  Jenny has always been a powerful force, one not to be reckoned with – yet never once has she used her suggestion inappropriately, nor meant any harm, instead, she always applies her insights blissfully, following her gut instinct like a compass leading a lost sailor to land…it has been amazing to watch how it has grown, how she has grown and developed throughout her lifetime.” Sandra reached over the table and squeezed Jen’s forearm, prompting Jen to return her smile with admiration and contentment.

“We were thrilled when she decided and ultimately committed to capturing it all into a book” added her Mom, Debora.  “I’ll digress for a second if you will allow me, and point out that it wasn’t soon after her return from Kaua’i in 2016 that sharing this story – these experiences – became her driving force in life.  She didn’t eat, sleep or breathe if it didn’t move her closer to her definite major purpose, closer to sharing what she’s learned – in essence, closer to the reality that she is enjoying today.  Whatever you discussed with her was the missing piece.  Nothing could hold her back once she got home (not even the brutal Canadian winters).  It is so fulfilling as her Mom, and as her friend and mastermind cheerleader – perhaps most notably the president of her Fan Club – to see her sharing her message and so bravely baring her vulnerability in front of the world – and actually embracing it.  I’m learning so much from her.”

Debora continued, “We believe her thinking patterns will change the way the world responds to emotional trauma and will influence and encourage people as they find their strength.  Rejecting the societal pressure to assume a ‘victim’ role, instead, embracing the victory of finding the lesson in every situation, of learning, and ultimately, of growing…becoming… evolving!  It’s connected on so many levels – the reach is nearly immeasurable!”

Q+A | Part 1: …and also…wait, what!?!

Q: I understand that you were prompted to write this book after a pick-up truck struck you and your daughter while you were walking to your vehicle, is that correct?

A: Yes Mark, we were fortunate to be in exactly the right spot, at the right time.

Q: Hold on…did I hear you correctly…did you just say you were in the right place at the right time?  Didn’t you just confirm that you and Sara were struck by a pick-up truck?!  Can you walk me through your thought process?

A: Certainly, my thinking is this…if we were one step further ahead we would have been pinned under the truck with no chance of survival, however if we were one step back of where we actually were, there would have been time to push Sara away, and perhaps jump away myself…which sounds ideal, however if that were the case, we wouldn’t have been able to experience all of the growth opportunities that we have had as a result of the accident and our subsequent injuries.

For instance, GlobalTV did a feature on Sara and the technology that saved her life – now we have a YouTube video, nearly 7 minutes long.  We’re YouTube sensations!  Sara was featured on the Radio-a-Thon to raise funds for the Alberta Children’s Hospital and she’s had countless post-admission visits through the hospital where she’s had the chance to bring a smile to other kids with similar injuries.  Not your run-of-the-mill experiences for any child – never mind one who was still sporting single digits in the age category!  I mean, c’mon Mark, where can you match that kind of life experience!

Q: That’s something else, Jen, quite remarkable.  I understand that one of Sara’s favorite activities with you is a form of rapid fire Q+A, correct?

A: Yes, usually she uses that tactic when trying to compare how angelic she seems compared to something undesirable (read: idiotic, neurotic, selfish or just plain stupid) that her brother just finished doing.  In her words, “Mom, quick…without thinking…who’s your favorite child right now!?!”  How she manages to get through the entire sentence without busting up is beyond me.

Q+A | Part 2: Incase you were wondering…

Mark: Alright then, let’s run through a rapid fire Q&A, Sara style…

Q: Quick…without thinking…what’s your favourite ice cream?

A: Breyers Mint Chocolate Chip…for sure!

Q: Where’s your favourite place on earth?

A: Kaua’i is a strong contender…but I’d have to say Moraine Lake, near Banff (Lake Louise), Alberta.  Only open May – August since you’ve basically got to be a Mountain Goat to get to it, but once you’re there, a lake appears almost as if out of nowhere, surrounded by majestic mountains that basically make you a better person just by being there.

Q+A | Part 3: The Preliminaries

Q: How has moving from being the child, to having children changed you?

A: I cherish the people that surround me…they have given me a safe place to be myself, and remind me daily what it means to both give and receive unconditional love.  I am grateful for them every day and love them with every ounce of my being.  It’s been said that we are the culmination of the five people we hang around with most – so since family is so important to me, it’s been a mission, and a privilege, to help shape Mike and Sara into independent thinkers.  I joke that my goal in life is to create kids who could survive the Zombie Apocalypse…knowing if they can THINK they’ll likely survive.  Although I did get swept up in the endless quick sand of the new Mom mantra of give-give-give…I now realize that putting myself first is a sign of strength, not weakness, and it actually makes me a better Mom (and person).  I’ve learned to walk the tightrope between giving too much and putting myself first with ease and grace.

Q: How do you see yourself now?

A: I am the perfect trifecta of Brains | Bravery | Beauty – all powerfully combined as a positive influence, creation impact as a role model and thought leader, and living life on purpose and of purpose!

Q: When did you first realize that you could associate any feeling(s) to any situation, at will?

A: When I was 11.   I recognized the things I was dealing with had been somewhat cyclical for the last few months (sadly, more likely the last few years) and I performed a science experiment of sorts – if I could change my reaction to the situation/events…would it have any correlation to the outcome?  I was astounded at the results, so naturally had to test my theory again…and again…and again…until eventually, I perfected my approach.  Naturally then, I had to start all over again!

With challenge comes change, and I am up to the challenge of changing!  I accept that life is a process and sometimes perfection is offset by growth.  As long as it furthers me in my evolution or understanding, or helps me exercise empathy…even those nasty ones that seem insistent on teaching me patience…I’m game for all of it.

Q: What is most important to you in your life?

A: My Personal Pivotal Needs are Liberty and Recognition for Creative Expression.

Regarding Liberty:

I want to know I’ve got all of my commitments met, with wiggle-room for surprises, while providing a very comfortable life for my family which includes fun-money for adventures and new experiences anytime we like.

Regarding Recognition for Creative Expression:

Equally as important, it means a lot to me to hear feedback about how my influence is impacting other people.  May I share a story with you about a poem I received from an old-neighbor while Sara and I were in the hospital during our 51-day hospital stay?  It meant so much to me that Mandy took the time to share her thoughts around how my words impacted her life – she went the extra mile to print, frame and present it in person.

Q: What is your most prized possession?

A: My most precious asset is the 6-inches between my own ears and its’ guard is fortified by everything I am and all that I want to accomplish.  The ability to THINK is the greatest gift I have to give to the world, but more importantly, the greatest gift I could ever leave for Mike and Sara.  Intellectual ability and constant growth are the best way I know to prepare them for a straight vertical trajectory in all areas of life and love.  Ensuring they have the skills to think independently, setting an example by showing them what it looks like to be true to themselves, is and forever will be, my chief aim in life.  It will long survive me and become my lasting legacy.

Q: Why are you so committed to this cause?

A: I have been gifted with abilities to follow my core instinct, exercise empathy and possess vision greater than myself.  When combined with my unshakeable self-confidence, life has taught me to embrace the impact I have on others.  I put these gifts to work for the greater good, sharing my mindset through inspirational speaking and writing.  The whole give more, get more theory – you know!

Q: How do you nourish your mindset to keep you on track?

A: I am wholly responsible for my thoughts, feelings, and actions.  I exercise mind over matter, because if I don’t mind it doesn’t matter.  While I am not perfect, I am pure, humble, kind and empathetic.  While remaining logical and realistic with a birds-eye view, I remain unbiased and free.  I remain committed to upholding the discipline and positive self-talk required to continuously ignite the fire in my belly and propel myself towards the purpose I was born to fulfill.  The Think and Grow Rich habits have changed the very DNA of my thoughts and as a result, of my actions, and are forming the foundation of my personal philosophy.  I wholeheartedly welcome these principles to impact my life in stupendous proportions.

Q: Why are people so attracted to you?

A: I resonate at a very high frequency which attracts people like a beacon (of HOPE). People comment they like themselves best when they’re with me and wonder when they can see me again.  I am honored when people state they simply want to be around me, to ‘hear me think’, to catch a glimpse inside my head…it makes me feel like I can fly!  It is so great being me!!

Mark: Well, your Jen mo-jo is already rubbing off on us around here.  I can certainly see what all the hype is about!

Q+A | Part 4: Because Science, that’s why!

Alright, that gives us some background into why you think the way that you do…now, let’s dive a bit deeper into the science and psychology behind why you think the way you do.

Q: What is the premise of your book?

A: Many people go through their lives being held hostage to the subconscious shackles that are implanted as a result of a traumatic event at some point in their lives.  Many people don’t realize (or refuse to acknowledge) that they are making decisions in their adult lives based on an event that occurred in childhood or their teenage years that they attached a negative feeling to, without any regard for the FACT that the feeling we attach to those events, perhaps, holds more weight than the event itself.

mandy-nickerson-poemI’ve learned

(Dedicated to Jennifer and Sara for their strength and courage)

I’ve learned from my friend

And her hospital stay

STOP and smell the roses

Take time out to play

I’ve learned from her fight

Her pain and her tears

Life is for living

Not hiding from our fears

I’ve learned not to rush

But to simply slow down

Life is too short

To be running around

I’ve learned to smile more

And warmly say ‘Hi’

To help brighten the day

Of a stranger passing by

I’ve learned it’s not money

But my family who come first

My life isn’t that bad

Others have it much worse

I’ve learned from her story

And her little girl’s too

Now I pass this poem on

So you can learn too.

Q: Can you provide an example of when and how you implemented this logic?

A: Joann Mundin MD, FRCPC, MSc, Psychiatrist noted:

“I believe that Sara’s parents took very appropriate steps, perhaps without knowing it, to protect Sara from the development of PTSD following the collision.  This is because her parents made a deliberate decision to expose Sara to newspaper articles and details regarding the collision.  They also honoured Sara’s request to visit the site of the collision upon discharge from the hospital, which Sara did in a wheelchair even while the storefront was still boarded-up.  I believe that Sara’s early and repetitive exposure to the events of the collision while she was still in the hospital was a form of Exposure and Response Prevention which served to prevent Sara from going into full-fledged Posttraumatic Stress Disorder specifically related to events of the collision”.

Q: How do you override – or train – your brain in times of intense fear or immense anguish; how do you always find a positive silver lining?

A: That’s a great question!  Allow me to answer it in three parts.

First, I believe in the old saying; ‘To whom much is given, much is expected’. I’ve been told that my fearlessness is inspiring in EPIC proportions.  My life has been very blessed and I’ve lived a life that many would envy – I mean, many would fear – I mean, it’s perfect for me, regardless of what anyone thinks or doesn’t think.  Every step has lead me to where, and who, I am today.  I wouldn’t change a single thing about my life.

Secondly, I discovered that that fear and excitement trigger nearly identical neurons in the human brain?   Did you know that?!  When I realized this, it became apparent that I could mentally frame new experiences with open-minded excitement and run towards them, rather than becoming their victim…therefore I set out to conquer my fear and insisted that instead, I claim victory in all experiences and challenges that life presents.

Finally, I recognized very early on in life that repeat experiences are an opportunity to make different decisions – and sometimes, new mistakes.  Persistence towards my DMP does not recognize failure, instead by default, I question ‘What is this teaching me?’.  What is the lesson?  De Ja Vu’s are simply put a reminder that I didn’t learn the lesson last time, and I need to pay attention and take a closer look at the situation and evaluate – ahead of time if possible – how I’m reacting, why, and what my other options are.

Q+A | Part 5: Have Brains…Will travel.

Q: What’s next for you, Jen?

A: My mindset invites unfathomable opportunity, while my humility allows for maximum growth so I know the doors are open and opportunities abound.  I have accepted and embraced the changes to my memory and speech patterns and have embraced HIS master plan for my destiny.  My greatest DESIRE is to give back, I am evolving daily and learning to govern my actions accordingly.

I TRUST that continuing to be a good person, doing the right things for the right reasons, and remaining steadfast in my positive mental attitude…I can TRUST that my Liberty; financial freedom will come as a result of getting right with myself and letting my song out for everyone to embrace, or not, and either is quite fine with me.  I am the master of my own economic fate.  I am the governor of my destiny!  The world is as I see it.

I’ll continue to write…spend more time in a hammock…Autonomy has always been on my side…going to continue getting right with myself so I can help others get right with themselves, as well.  This experience has been so enlightening.  The more I learn, the more I realize I don’t know!   I am a life-long student of growth, performance and self-reflection. I remain a curious discoverer!

Q: In 10 words or less, how would you sum up your life…despite everything that life has thrown at you?

A: I am very blessed and highly favored!
